Amana Gas Furnace Troubleshooting

There will be a time when it is like a frozen wasteland outside in the dead of winter and your Amana heater decides it will not work. It only happens when it is freezing out. Don’t panic! It is best to do a little homework so let’s check into Amana gas furnace troubleshooting.

First, get out the manual (you know, the thing that came with the install). It will have a suggested procedure for troubleshooting. If you can’t find it, put the model number in at the Amana website and see if you can find it that way.

There are basics for this problem so use the intelligence you have and give this a try. It could be as something as simple as a dirty filter or a simple variation in temperature.

Locate the circuit panel. (That is the unknown box in the unknown location somewhere in your home.) Check the basement or near the location of the furnace and open up the panel door and flip the switch that is marked “furnace” to the off position.

Next, pull the non-louvered door up and slide it out. Locate the filters on the right and left side and remove. You have two filters so make sure you have them both. Look closely at each one and check to see if they are damaged or dirty. This is important and checking your filters should be part of your monthly routine.

If you own permanent filters, and they are beyond cleaning, order new ones from Amana. If you have disposable filters, replace them while you have them out. Set the louvered door back into the unit; reconnect the power at the circuit breaker.

Next, one by one check each register and cold air return in the house, turn on the furnace and allow to run for 15 minutes. Take two thermometers and place one at the heat register and one at the cold air return. Note the temperature at the unit turn on. You will then want to check the temperature rise that is with the spec sheet that came with the unit. If it is not meeting the spec sheet or the rating plate, adjust the blower speed.

If this troubleshooting does not give a positive outcome and fix the issue, call the service center or contractor. Do not attempt to remove parts or any other pieces of the unit. You will be back in a warm temperature soon, as Amana has a good product and repairs are fairly simple! But if you fixed it yourself, you saved a service call.

Amana Furnace Reviews

The name Amana has been around for many years. It is a trusted name in all types of household products. Let us look at Amana Furnace Reviews.

It is a good idea to do your homework before investing in a household item that you depend on when it is 5 degrees outside and five feet of snow! But before we delve into reviews, let us get a little education on the benefits and how central heating systems work.

Well, we all know you have it in your home for comfort. You can have indoor warmth anytime you want it. You will need to become familiar with AFUE or the Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. The norm in the US is 80% but Amana has a line of 96% AFUE furnaces.

If you are looking at a price difference, the few hundred dollars extra you may spend will be worth it. Get more bang for your buck. Other benefits are cleaner air, and the furnace interacts as an important neighbor to the air conditioner operation. Finally, you might get a tax credit with 95% AFUE so keep receipts and notify your tax professional for qualification.

Also you will want to get a SEER rating. SEER is an abbreviation for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. It’s a number that describes how well air-conditioning equipment works. A higher SEER means better efficiency and lower energy bills. SEER is calculated by dividing the amount of cooling supplied by the air conditioner or heat pump (Btu’s per hour) by the power (watts) used by the cooling equipment under a specific set of seasonal conditions.

Amana Furnace Reviews

One consumer reported after having a Carrier and a Trane System that proved to have aluminum spiny coils that attracted debris or animal hair, he invested in 2 Amana 16 SEER A/C/ unites with 2 stage 95% AFUE. The consumer stated he felt he made a wise investment and recommended Amana to anybody that needed a high quality system. This review was written in May after owning his Amana furnace for 4 years so this guy is still happy which says something.

A five-year owner in California had a Rheem downstairs and Trane upstairs when the house was built 10 years ago. Both units were noisy and the power bills looked like part of the national debt! He replaced both systems with new Amana 16 SEER 2-stage A/C units with matching Amana 95% AFUE furnaces in the attic. The power bill went down 50% and the units are very quiet.

So two good reviews and a little education on SFUE and SEER ratings will help you make an intelligent decision. Amana looks like the winner. Good luck!

Amana Furnace Service Complaints

When you live in a home and have a houseful of “stuff” that makes the house livable or that you can accomplish a task with, nothing will run forever but sometimes you can have a legitimate issue regarding a piece of equipment in the home that has malfunctioned. What about Amana furnace complaints?

A complaint was lodged calling the unit his “Amana Nightmare.” The consumer had a 15-year-old furnace and replaced it with a 95% AFUE Amana unit with a variable speed unit. He stated the sales representative was firm the warranty was the best in the industry, and the unit was superior.

“I will simplify but I had more trouble with the Amana and it was louder than the 15 year old unit.” The consumer regretted he did not go with an American Standard. The Amana service representative was not helpful.

Another unhappy consumer compared his new Amana furnace to a “jet engine.” The family replaced their 20 old furnace with an 80% AFUE unit. They were told it was “great technology”.

The installer who returned to check it said the sound was “normal” and told the customer they should have paid 50% more for a 95% AFUE and the unit would have been quiet. Needless to say, the sales rep did not tell the customer that the noise would be less objectionable with the more expensive unit. The consumer is “not happy at all.”

Amana appears to have many furnace service complaints. Some installers do not follow suggested install procedures, they take on issues without factory guidance or they are not really familiar with Amana furnaces.

Some complaints are posted on the Internet with very current dates. They did not state the model of the Amana furnace but stated again, as many of the complaints point to a very noisy unit. This complaint also added it did not give off much heat.

There was a motor replacement on the exhaust 5 years into the unit. The family said they are saving for a new furnace and they would never recommend an Amana furnace to anyone.

Amana Furnace Consumer Reports

If you are going to purchase a furnace, it pays to do some research on the product and what people are saying. Amana is a great name in major home products and they have been around for years. Let’s look to see what Amana furnace consumer reports are saying.

With any Amana trademark, held by Maytag Worldwide, but is licensed and distributed by Goodman. Goodman Manufacturing is a privately held company with the HQ in Houston, TX. If you want to do your homework prior to a purchase of any big-ticket item as a furnace, go to the library and find the most current issue of Consumer Reports. You can also go on line and take a monthly subscription for less than $6.00.

Time your purchase before the cold weather sets in. If you don’t, you will be at the mercy of a contractor who will be forced to sell you a brand that may not be the best one. Consumer reports for Amana Furnace are for the most part listed under Goodman instead of Amana.

Consumers stated having a Goodman Goodcare Installer was the best advice. They are trained on the product and each furnace issue that comes up can be solved buy calling the HQ in Houston and they will direct you to the regional center management. Goodman is now the largest North American manufacturer of HVAC equipment.

Many furnace issues come from faulty installation. Goodman has numerous safety features that will turn the unit off if an issue arises that could cause a serious problem.

Consumer reports also state that the Goodman 69K 95%AFUE was a superior model. Some self-installed units reported the ease to put in the unit provided that the instruction manual was read and referred to properly.
Consumers who self installed the Goodman models reported that the instructions were crystal clear and if they had a problem, regional assistance was available on the phone. If you’re not up to a self-install don’t try it. If you have the tools and reasonable knowledge and you won’t need a degree in rocket science, go for it and save several thousand dollars.
