My Comfortmaker Furnace is Not Working

When one puts a furnace in their home they are making an investment. Not just an investment in money but in the belief that it will perform correctly and provide heat throughout their home. Occasionally something will happen and they find the comfortmaker furnace not working.

When this happens the first thing they need to do is check the error code light. This light will, through a series of signals, indicate if there is something wrong with a particular part of the furnace. The majority of these signals will point out some very simple adjustment that needs to be made.

These codes are quite precise and, if one is not sure exactly how to follow the directions given, it is simple to refer to the owner’s manual. This manual will very clearly show, step by step, what needs to be done. This is an excellent feature on this machine.

If the furnace does not come on, after making the code adjustment, there are some basic steps one can do before having to call in a professional. First, one should check the breaker box and be sure that none of the switches are on the ‘off’ position.

Returning any of these switches to the ‘on’ position will usually solve the problem. Many times this is all one must do to get it back in the regular routine.

If that does not work then the next thing that should be done is to make sure there is not a problem with the outdoor unit. Weeds and other plants grow very rapidly and can sometimes cause a blockage, which interferes with the unit running properly. A little trimming should take care of this problem.

If the problem is with the heat coming on and then off, this is often caused by the ‘flame sensor’ rod. Over time, dirt and other debris can clog this part of the furnace and it needs to be cleaned. The owner’s manual will give clear directions as to its location and how to remove it for cleaning.

If one has followed all the code instructions, done the above and made sure that the unit is clean, with all contacts clear of dirt and grime and there is still a problem, then it may be time to call in a professional.

Before going to the last step, however, one can always call on the company for advice. With their many expert technicians on hand, they will be happy to give any advice desired.
